Welcome to the club at the 'Centre of New Zealand'
Recognising that not all business people finish work in time to attend an early evening meeting, our club was established as a morning (or 'breakfast') club. We meet at The Rutherford Hotel each Friday from 6.45am until about 8.00am. Chartered in February 2003 with 22 members, our club has experienced steady growth.
At the beginning of the 2007/08 Rotary year, our members numbered 37. We have a high percentage of women members, and our average club member's age is younger than most Rotary clubs. Many of our members have young children, rather than having grandchildren.
Our club has not embraced some of the traditions of long-established Rotary clubs. Instead we feel our club is evolving as one more suited to the modern business environment. Our communication channels are all electronic, using either email or the club's blog and webpage. Our fees, including meals, are paid by regular monthly automatic bank payments.
We have however embraced the community philosophies familiar to all Rotary
Clubs worldwide. Our club has developed a strong focus on supporting youth
initiatives in our community.
